Music motivations for 2022

Music motivates each and every one of us — GPG Music staff, adjudicators, band directors, composers, music educators, musicians. And of course students…but only those we engage. We have some ideas about inspiring the next generation of musicians going into 2022.

  1. Increase music advocacy. The pandemic wreaked havoc on in-person education for students and still may with the new variant. The impacts could be budget cuts or worse, loss of student interest. Keep beating the drums for your music programs.
  2. Expand music engagement. Music educators often work with the same students over several semesters. It’s easy to get in a rhythm. In the coming New Year, apply modere for student recruitment. Look for the kids not in the music program who are making music with improvised instruments. Invite them to join.
  3. Reinvigorate your enthusiasm for music and sharing the success of performing with your students. Check out musictheory.net for some great lessons for your classes.
  4. Consider where students are in their musical journey. Instill your passion.
  5. Remind your trumpets to kick out the third-valve slide on those low Ds.
  6. Check those yarn mallets for density; maybe order some new ones.
  7. Rein in your spontaneous tempo enhancements.
  8. If you get bored, stand up, scream "Music comes from the soul!"
  9. When you finish a piece, wave a lighter in the air, well maybe your cell phone flashlight.

Whatever your resolutions, #InspireTheNextGeneration. We’re here to support your music needs.
